Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Verbal Deescalation Certification Summary

The Crisis Prevention Institute’s Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training is an internationally-recognized training course that prepares students to de-escalate hostile or dangerous situations. NVCI training was designed for professionals who work with high-risk individuals, such as social workers, addictions counselors, law enforcement, security services, healthcare workers, teachers, and education assistants; though the skills taught can help anyone who works in situations involving harassment, mental illnesses, aggression, or cultural violence at their place of work.

This module covers the Verbal Deescalation Training portion of the CPI Blue Card.

NVCI training includes:

  • How to identity crisis development and behaviours
  • How to intervene in crisis moments to faciliate de-escalation
  • How to communicate, verbally and non-verbally, with those in a crisis situation
  • Verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Setting limits and boundaries
  • Professional Distancing
  • Planning for difficult conversations
  • Managing safety in workplaces
  • Post-crisis and follow-up
  • Trauma Informed Care
 
Successful completion of the NVCI Training course provides graduates with a CPI Blue Card in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, as well as a PDF letter which you can provide to your employer.
 
This certification is valid for 2 years from date of your training.
 
The Blue Card and CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training Participant Workbook will be mailed out to the address provided to Heritage College.

About the Instructor

Kathy DuGray joined the Heritage College team in 2023. With 40 years of experience in the Human Services industry, she has trained hundreds of students in both verbal deescalation and physical restraints. Kathy understands the critical role NVCI training plays in keeping both staff and clients safe.

Mode of Delivery

NVCI Training is 100% Online via Zoom by a CPI-certified trainer. This module covers the Verbal Deescalation Training portion of the CPI Blue Card.
