Every graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. At Heritage College, this year’s Graduation Ceremony carried a message that resonated deeply with every graduate, family member, faculty member, and guest in attendance:
“The Journey Starts Where You Are.”
This theme reminds us that life-changing opportunities don’t require perfect circumstances—they begin with one courageous decision to take the first step.
Whether you’re a recent high school graduate, a working professional looking for a career change, a newcomer to Canada, or someone returning to school after many years, your journey toward a better future starts exactly where you are today.
A Celebration of Students Across Canada
This year’s graduating class represented the diversity and determination that make Heritage College such a unique learning community.
Graduates travelled from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia, and Ontario to celebrate this milestone together. We also proudly recognized graduates from New Brunswick and Halifax who were unable to attend in person but remain an important part of the Heritage College family.
Each graduate arrived with a different story, different experiences, and different challenges—but they all shared one thing in common: the decision to invest in themselves through education.
A Story That Embodies the Theme
One graduate who perfectly illustrates this year’s theme is Dianne Lepla.
For more than a decade, Dianne built her career as a Class 1 truck driver, travelling thousands of kilometres across Canada. While she appreciated the opportunities her career provided, she also knew she wanted a future that allowed her to spend more time at home while continuing to build a meaningful career.
Living on a rural acreage near Barrhead, Alberta, nearly four hours from Calgary, attending a traditional campus every day simply wasn’t practical.
Instead of allowing distance to become a barrier, Dianne chose a different path.
She enrolled in Heritage College’s Accounting & Payroll Administration Diploma and completed her studies from home, learning from her kitchen table while balancing life’s responsibilities.
Today, Dianne has successfully transitioned into a rewarding administrative and payroll career, proving that where you live doesn’t have to determine what’s possible.
Her story reminds us that opportunity isn’t always about moving somewhere new. Sometimes it’s about believing that change can begin exactly where you are.
Inspiring Messages for the Next Generation
The Graduation Ceremony featured several motivational speeches that encouraged graduates to continue believing in themselves as they begin the next chapter of their careers.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Deanna Branson from Enviros.org, Simarpreet Anand of Revital Health, and Sam Abouelmoati of Crowfoot Pharmacy for sharing their professional experiences and words of encouragement.
Their messages were especially meaningful for newcomers to Canada and individuals exploring new career opportunities. They reminded graduates that perseverance, continuous learning, and resilience remain some of the most valuable qualities in today’s rapidly changing workforce.
We were also honoured to receive greetings from Andre Chabot, as well as a congratulatory letter from Mickey Amery. Their recognition highlighted the importance of career education and lifelong learning in building stronger communities across Alberta and Canada.
More Than a Graduation Ceremony
At Heritage College, graduation is more than receiving a diploma.
It is the celebration of sacrifices made after work, study sessions completed after putting children to bed, assignments submitted despite busy schedules, and the determination to keep moving forward despite life’s obstacles.
